Bespoke hand made kitchen in Burton on Trent

The design brief

The design brief for this bespoke hand made kitchen, was to create the perfect balance between a fully functioning kitchen and a perfect space for entertaining.

The client’s home is the centre of many social gatherings, so the Island and alcove bench seat became the focal points of the design.

The colour scheme and details

The island and bench are spray painted in a deep navy blue. The kitchen area in Farrow and Ball Cornforth white. This is accented by the copper hinges and handles. This theme is further echoed by the copper under mounted sink and tap.

The client was also eager to have visible oak accents to create a contrast against the Navy blue cabinets. This can be seen in the open shelving cabinet at one end, the wine rack and shelving unit at the opposite end and the oak chopping board housing on the island. This all ties in beautifully with the property’s oak bi fold doors and roof framework.

The layout

The main body of the island comprises a Bosch, free standing dishwasher, a sink cabinet and large pan drawers. On the rear of the island are cabinets for storage. These have push to open catches to negate the need for handles.

The main kitchen area consists of a tall butlers pantry style cabinet with pan drawers below. At the opposite end is an American style fridge freezer housing with overhead storage. The Smeg range cooker is framed by a pair of small drawer units. These are used for spices and cutlery needed close to hand while cooking.

The specification

The cabinets were built using lacquered, veneered oak plywood. The beaded frames and doors in solid 28 mm maple. The drawers are dovetailed, solid oak on Blum soft close runners.

The look is completed with the stunning steel grey granite, this was also used for the splash back behind the range cooker.
